TESTING:
Standard Pathology & Functional Pathology
Sometimes it’s best to test not guess!
LET ME HELP DECIPHER ‘YOUR’ MAZE …
Standard (GP) Pathology
Standard (GP) pathology can tell us a whole lot about system imbalances and potential underlying causes of your health challenges, especially when all your bloods are read as a whole, and patterns are considered.
By understanding your health metrics, you are empowered to take control of your well-being. Knowledge is the first step towards making informed decisions about your health. Having objective data can be highly motivating, inspiring you to take proactive steps towards better health.
It also allows us to benchmark your current health status. This baseline can be invaluable for tracking your progress over time, whether you choose to follow up with further consultations or make lifestyle changes on your own.
Pathology Analysis Service
Pathology analysis through a naturopathic lens:
I offer a stand-alone service to interpret your standard pathology results, whether these are recent tests you’ve had done or from a recommended list (which I can provide) that you can take to your GP.
Your investment in this is $99. Knowledge is power!
Please note that I have no control over whether your GP will agree to all or any of the recommended tests. While many tests are funded by the Government, some incur an extra charge (for instance, Vitamin D), which you can discuss with your GP or blood lab.
What’s included? Great question!
I can send you a list of comprehensive bloods to request if you don’t already have some. You send your results to me, to analyse. We get together to discuss over a 30 minute Zoom, and then I’ll email you a summary of findings, likely with corrective suggestions. Please note this is not a full consult - however you could move onto that, with that great info in hand.
Traditional Pathology vs. Naturopathic Perspective:
Traditional pathology primarily focuses on identifying disease states by comparing results to established reference ranges. These ranges are often based on statistical averages within the population and are designed to flag abnormalities indicating pathology or disease.
Naturopathic medicine takes a more holistic approach, aiming to optimise overall health and well-being, rather than solely diagnosing diseases. Naturopaths consider a broader range of factors, including lifestyle, diet, stress levels, and environmental influences (both past and present). We also consider not just the physical side of health, but the mental and spiritual also - that’s what makes us up as a person. In addition to considering all this, we analyse laboratory results through a different lens.
By considering broader factors like lifestyle and mental health, we offer a more comprehensive and proactive approach to your health.
Narrower naturopathic ranges
Naturopathic practitioners use narrower reference ranges compared to conventional medicine. These ranges are based on optimal health markers rather than population averages. They reflect the levels at which individuals are likely to experience peak physical and mental well-being.
Analysing pathology results through these narrower ranges allows for a more proactive approach to health management, focusing on prevention and optimisation rather than just disease detection.
Benefits of Naturopathic Analysis:
By focusing on optimal health, our analysis empowers you to take proactive steps to improve your well-being
Addressing imbalances before they become serious issues allows you to make informed decisions about your health and prevent potential problems
Traditional pathology might miss subtle abnormalities or imbalances, but our narrower reference ranges can uncover these early warning signs
Identifying these imbalances early enables you to take action before they develop into more significant health concerns - this provides peace of mind
Transparency and collaboration:
I believe in open communication and a collaborative approach to your health. My naturopathic analysis is designed to complement, not replace, traditional medical care.
With full consultations, I often write "collaborative care" referral letters to GPs, with my client’s permission. These letters seek the GPs opinion, request standard pathology or request further investigations as necessary.
I encourage you to share our findings with your GP and other healthcare professionals. By working together, we can ensure a comprehensive and coordinated approach to your health, giving you the best possible care from all perspectives.
Functional (Specialist) Pathology
Functional pathology can be super useful
Functional pathology - or functional testing - offers specialised lab tests to uncover what's truly happening inside your body. These tests are available either as an option when working together on your Wellness Plan, or as standalone assessments, depending on your needs.
We can use both standard (GP) and functional tests as powerful tools to identify underlying imbalances or changes that may be affecting your health. These tests cover a range of markers related to functional, biochemical, digestive, nutritional, hormonal, and immune health. Depending on the test, samples may include blood, stool, urine, saliva, or even breath—many of which can be conveniently collected at home.
The results provide valuable insights that help shape a personalised Wellness Plan. For standalone tests, they can also offer actionable guidance on specific health concerns. Regardless, we will always book a follow-up consultation to interpret your results, discuss their significance, and email you a comprehensive report for your records.
These tests not only illuminate key areas of your health but also enable us to monitor your progress over time, refining your plan as your health evolves. By choosing functional testing, you’re investing in clarity and a targeted approach to your well-being.
Functional testing costs vary depending on the tests you choose. Contact me to discuss the best options and how they fit your unique needs.
